CONCORD UNIVERSITY PERFORMING ARTS SERIES HOSTS MARIMBA DUO

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Division of Fine Arts is proud to be hosting its second concert this semester in the Artist Performance Series which will feature a marimba duo known as “Turning Point” consisting of Laurel Black and Matt Sharrock. This concert will be held at Concord University on Wednesday, October 23rd at the Wilkes Family Chapel in University Point at 8 p.m.

The concert will include music from the 20th and 21st centuries, showcasing the jazz/Americana styles of the 20th century alongside modern, contemporary art music of today. It will involve 20th century jazz idiom/Americana music as well. “Otik Trio” by Hiroya Miura and “Why Everything is Always in the Last Place You Look” by Andrew Paul Jackson will be performed for the first time in the Southeast. Other music that will be played that evening includes pieces written by Andrew Thomas, Samuel Barber and George Gershwin. Casey Cangelosi, an instructor of music at CU, will also be making a guest appearance for this concert.

Laurel Black is the staff accompanist at Concord and Matt Sharrock is the principal conductor of EQ Ensemble in Boston, Mass. The two met while attending The Boston Conservatory and are excited to start their tour together which will feature Concord University, Marshall University, West Virginia University and Fairmont State University.
