WEST VIRGINIA FILM ‘MIRACLE BOY’ TO BE SHOWN
AT CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S FIFTH ANNUAL CAREER SYMPOSIUM

ATHENS, W.Va. – West Virginia filmmaker Jason Brown will be showing his movie “Miracle Boy” at the Concord University Career Symposium Friday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. The showing will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center on Concord’s main campus located at 1000 Vermillion St. in Athens, W.Va.

Brown is a native West Virginian who earned his Bachelor of Arts in communication from Concord in 1997. He continued his education with a Master of Fine Arts in film and video production from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008. He currently teaches communication courses at Valdosta State University in Georgia.

Brown’s film “Miracle Boy” is a short film set in Williamsburg, W.Va., that he produced with director Jake Mahaffy. The storyline follows a young boy who is injured in a farming accident and then bullied by other boys. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2012 and won the Top Grit prize for best overall film at the 2013 Indie Grits Film Festival.

As part of Concord’s Fifth Annual Career Symposium, there will be a Communication Arts Alumni Panel discussion from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before Brown’s presentation. The communication arts department invites all majors and those interested in learning more about the major to attend. The panel discussion will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center.
