CONCORD UNIVERSITY SYMPHONIC BAND SPRING CONCERT
REFLECTS ON TIMES OF WAR AND PEACE

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Symphonic Band will be holding its spring concert on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the main auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. The Fine Arts Center is located on Concord’s campus at 1000 Vermillion Street in Athens, W.Va.

The band will be presenting music reflecting times of war as well as times of peace. Included in the program are the songs, “Mars” from “The Planets,” an arrangement of the hymn “Be Thou My Vision,” and the world premiere of a piece by sophomore music major Austin Bolden, “Rondo No. 1.” Bolden is a Bluefield native and will be conducting the piece.

Dr. Laura Zamzow is the band director at Concord and will be conducting the concert. She says, “The band has been doing great work this semester and we are excited to share this concert with our community. There will be a good mix of the exciting and of the reflective.”

She will also be directing the percussion ensemble and Concord Commanders jazz band concert on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Main Auditorium.

Admission to the symphonic band spring concert is free. The concert is open to the community as well as Concord faculty, staff and students.
