PIPESTEM STATE PARK LOCATION FOR CONCORD UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE
ON APPALACHIAN GEOGRAPHY AND GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION

ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University will host the 16th Biennial Conference on Appalachian Geography and Geography Education at Pipestem State Park March 15-16, 2013.

The conference was started 32 years ago by the late Tom Hill, a professor of geography at Concord. It is a forum for higher education faculty, teachers, students and members of the community.

Offered every other year, the event draws participants from all areas of the Appalachians. Along with faculty presenters from Concord University, this year’s conference includes speakers from Virginia and Georgia. Two Concord students, Briana Karl and Cody Treadway, will hold a poster session.

Presentation topics range from forest histories, climate change and presidential voting by West Virginians to orienteering, sheep and goat farming and the Appalachian Trail.

For more information contact Dr. Joe Manzo, Concord University professor of geography, at manzoj@concord.edu or 304-384-5208.
