CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S MARSH LIBRARY
HOSTING ANTI-BOOK CLUB BOOK CLUB FOR COMMUNITY AND STUDENTS

ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University is now hosting regular meetings of the Anti-Book Club Book Club on the third Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in Room 202 of the Marsh Library. The Frank Marsh Library is located on Concord’s campus at 1000 Vermillion Street in Athens, W. Va.

The Anti-Book Club Book Club is an organization that aims to both encourage a discourse by inviting everyone to read something different, whether it is a book, a blog, a magazine, or anything of their choosing, and to also open a forum for discussion in a non-threatening environment.

In normal book clubs, everyone reads the same book at the same time and comes together to discuss the book either monthly or weekly. In many instances this involves spending money each month. The Anti-Book Club Book Club will discuss books that members are currently reading, books that they want to read, and hear about what other people are reading.

Membership is open to Concord students, faculty and staff and also to the community. Casual readers and bookworms alike are urged to attend and enjoy discussion and reading in an open-setting. The club will not be strict or rigid, according to the library’s interim director, Connie Shumate, a member of the club and one of its founders. “Unlike traditional book clubs, if you miss a meeting, no problem. If you forget your book, no problem. Just bring ideas to share,” she said.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013.
