CONCORD’S REIDMILLER EXHIBITING ARTWORK IN PARKERSBURG

ATHENS, W.Va. – Lauri Lydy Reidmiller, Ph.D., Concord University’s director of art education, will be exhibiting her artwork at the Parkersburg Art Center’s Main Gallery Feb. 17 - March 23, 2012. The show, Japanese Perspectives, showcases her paintings on silk. The opening for the exhibition will be held on Feb. 18 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

“My paintings often demonstrate asymmetrical balance and uniform fields of color. Surface design is emphasized rather than the illusion of depth which also reinforces the aesthetics of traditional Japanese screen painting,” Reidmiller said.

Abby Hayhurst, executive director of the Parkersburg Art Center, said, “Her work is reminiscent of early Japanese traditional style, but is still very modern. Hard to explain… fun and very sophisticated at the same time, due in large part to her bold hues and use of the negative space.”

Reidmiller has extensively exhibited her artwork regionally. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Ellen Von Ellmes Gallery in Richlands, Va., the Artisan Center in Wheeling, W.Va., and the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, W.Va. Her paintings Serenity I and II were selected for the 67th Allied Artists of West Virginia Juried Exhibition at the Clay Center in Charleston, W.Va. Her work has also been included in the West Virginia Art & Craft Guild 7th Juried Competition in Parkersburg, W.Va.

In 2010, Reidmiller was the recipient of The Helena Thacker Award at the West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibit at the Randolph County Community Arts Center. Recently, she had solo exhibitions of her prints at the Chuck Mathena Center and the Erma Byrd Center in Beckley, W.Va.

She is currently president elect of the West Virginia Art Education Association and was named the West Virginia Higher Education Art Educator of the Year for 2011.

The Parkersburg Art Center is located at 725 Market Street in Parkersburg. Contact (304) 485-3859 or parkersburgartcenter.org for additional information.
