TOWN SOCIAL CHILDREN’S GAMES TO FEATURE RACES

ATHENS, W.Va. - Children’s games at the annual Athens-Concord Town Social are taking on a nostalgic flair. In honor of the event’s 25th year competitions will include a sack race, wheelbarrow race, three-legged race and egg carry race.

The Town Social is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of Concord University. Theme for this year is “Quarter-Century Celebration.”

The races will begin at 2:30 p.m. and conclude with announcement of winners at 3:30 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded to the top finishers in each event. Pre-registration is not necessary and there is no fee to enter.

Along with races, games for younger children are also being planned. These will begin at 2:15 p.m. and be held until 4 p.m.

The Concord University Athletic Department is coordinating the children’s games. Student-athletes with Concord’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) are assisting with the games as part of their community service.
