Concord University Announces Alumni Weekend Events
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will host Alumni Weekend May 13-15, 2011. The Annual Alumni Banquet, Spring 2011 Commencement and the Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony for University Point are all part of the festivities.
Concord alumni and friends are invited to the banquet on Friday, May 13. A Reception and Alumni Gathering will be held prior to the meal from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the John and Lucia Pais Family Fellowship Hall in University Point.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jerry L. Beasley Student Center Ballroom. Guest speaker will be Kevin Powell ’89. A successful North Carolina businessman, Powell has achieved acclaim in the world of motorsports as a dealer and on the track.
Concord’s Class of 1961 celebrates its 50th reunion this year and will be recognized at the banquet.

Spring 2011 Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 14 in the main gym of the Leslie R. and Ruby Webb Carter Center. Two ceremonies will be held to accommodate the number of graduates and their families and guests. A morning ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and an afternoon ceremony is planned for 2 p.m. The Class of 1961 will be honored during the 10 a.m. ceremony.
The Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony for University Point will be held on Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m. A reception will follow the dedication in the John and Lucia Pais Family Fellowship Hall in University Point.
The events of May 15 provide an opportunity to honor the donors whose contributions have made University Point possible. Tours that day will allow guests to see first-hand the possibilities awaiting “The Campus Beautiful” and the surrounding region with this new building.
Commanding a prominent location on the front drive of Concord’s Athens campus, University Point is anchored by the Wilkes Family Chapel, Erickson Alumni Center and John and Lucia Pais Family Fellowship Hall.
