Pink Zone Day, Team Recogonition Part of CU Basketball Doubleheader

ATHENS - Two special events will be part of Concord University’s basketball doubleheader against Glenville State at the Carter Center on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011.

The date has been designated Concord’s Pink Zone Day. Also, at halftime of the women’s game, CU’s men’s golf and women’s cross country teams will be honored for their conference championship seasons last fall.

The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s match-up at 7:30 p.m.

Pink Zone Day was started in 2007 by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer. Inspired by legendary North Carolina State coach Kay Yow, Pink Zone Day has grown from 120 participating schools to more than 1500. Yow succumbed to breast cancer in January 2009.

Concord fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink to the Valentine’s Day doubleheader. Donations to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund will be gratefully accepted.
