Concord University Division of Business to Hold Seventeenth Annual Concord Business Challenge

ATHENS - The Concord University Division of Business will host the Seventeenth Annual Concord Business Challenge (CBC) on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 on the Athens campus. The Business Challenge is designed to give high school students an opportunity to test their business knowledge base and teachers an opportunity to learn about new teaching tools and techniques.

Approximately 300 junior and senior high school students from West Virginia and Virginia are expected to attend the Business Challenge.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast in the lobby of the Alexander Fine Arts Center followed by a welcome from Concord University President Gregory F. Aloia and Division of Business Chair Dr. Susan Robinett. The first testing sessions will begin at 9:45 a.m. with an awards ceremony at 12:35 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Steve Meadows, network manager of the Center for Academic Technologies at Concord University, will present “Technology WOW” to teachers and counselors in the Rahall Technology Center.

A high school junior or senior attending the Concord Business Challenge may compete for one of two scholarships. The two winners will be selected based on their Business Challenge scholarship examination performance. The two students scoring the highest on the exam will qualify for a $500 per year scholarship when they enroll full-time at Concord University. Each winner must meet admissions criteria established by the University for entering freshmen. After the student’s first academic year, the scholarship will be renewed if the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and remains in good standing with the University. The scholarship will be renewable for up to eight semesters. The maximum total award could be $2,000 for each winner.

The Admissions Office will be the primary administrator of the award and will work in cooperation with the Business faculty in selecting the winners.

For registration information contact Bonnie Brown, CBC coordinator, at (304) 384-5244.
