Concord University Celebrates 2010 Homecoming

ATHENS - A brilliant autumn day graced “The Campus Beautiful” for Concord University’s 2010 Homecoming celebration Saturday, Oct. 16. Alumni, students, faculty, staff and other Concordians packed the stands of Callaghan Stadium to cheer on the Mountain Lions and enjoy an afternoon of festivities.

Football action started with a 3 p.m. kickoff in the Concord vs. Glenville State bout. The Mountain Lions gave homecoming fans extra reason to celebrate as they outdistanced the Pioneers 49-14.

Concord University President Gregory F. Aloia, First Lady Mary Aloia and Dr. Marjie Flanigan, interim vice president of student affairs and director of retention, crowned homecoming royalty in a halftime ceremony. The 2010 Homecoming Royalty are Anne Endres from Charleston representing Sigma Sigma Sigma and Adam Pauley from Whitesville representing Bonner Scholars.

First runners-up are Moe Ishihara from Yugawara, Kanagawa, Japan representing the International Club and Montana Callison from Rainelle representing Chi Omega Psi. Second runners-up are Sarah Justus from Hurley, Va. representing Delta Zeta and Russell Christian from Delbarton representing Sigma Tau Gamma.

Other candidates are Anna Vandevender from Smoot representing Nu Zeta Chi and Seth Wright from Clifton Forge, Va. representing Mu Xi Phi; Rita Targosky from Moundsville representing Alpha Sigma Tau and Joshua Hanna from Nettie representing Tau Kappa Epsilon; Kelsey Queen from Wayne representing Alpha Sigma Alpha and Josh Cox from Charleston representing Pi Kappa Phi; and Mandy Griffith from Alderson representing Elite Dance Team and Saugat Lama from Kathmandu, Nepal representing Lambda Iota Gamma.
