International Jazz Guitarist Az Samad Performing at Concord University in Artist Lecture Series

ATHENS - Internationally recognized jazz guitarist-composer Az Samad will bring his rhythmic blend of Latin, jazz, pop and new age guitar to the Alexander Fine Arts Center stage at Concord University for a live performance Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at 7 p.m.

Concord’s Artist Lecture Series is presenting the San Francisco-based musician’s visit to Athens. Samad is constantly in demand with his diverse musical skills in jazz, contemporary acoustic fingerstyle guitar and classical guitar. His performances range from intimate solo guitar shows to outdoor festival stages and classical orchestra concerts.

Singer songwriter Pete Teo says, “Az squeezes out a whole new sonic universe for the acoustic guitar.” According to The New Strait Times, “Az Samad produces works that are richly textured, poetic and atmospheric.”

In addition to his musical outreach work at San Francisco Bay Area schools in California, Samad has taught workshops at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. and Culturefest in Pipestem, as well as the International College of Music and the Malaysian Institute of Art in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tickets for Samad’s performance are available through the Concord University Box Office by calling (304) 384-5101 or emailing boxoffice@concorduevents.com. Admission is free for Concord faculty, staff and students. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for non-Concord students with identification.
