McNair Scholars Hosting Undergraduate Research Day at Concord University

Athens, W.Va. - Concord University’s McNair Scholars, along with the psychology division, will host Undergraduate Research Day Thursday, April 15th in the ballroom of the Jerry L Beasley Student Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dr. Rodney Klein, director of the McNair Scholars Program, says students will benefit in many ways by attending the event.
“Students will benefit by seeing what’s out there as far as projects they will see and also with the wide range of programs offered by these grad schools,” he said. “We really want students to come out and again, you don’t have to stay for the whole thing.”

This year’s event will consist of around 100 posters and 17 paper presentations by undergraduates from Concord University and its McNair affiliates: Bluefield State College and West Virginia State University.

At 10 a.m., keynote speaker, Dr. Gary Rankin, principal investigator for the WV-INBRE Program will present his “Evolution of a Scientist.”

The poster session will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will present papers from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Taking place right outside the ballroom will be the Graduate and Professional School Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Schools participating in the grad fair include: Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Concord University, Fairmont State University, Hollins University, King College, Lindsey-Wilson College, Marshall University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy and also the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Oklahoma State University, Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine, Radford University, Tufts University, Vanderbilt University, Virginia Tech, West Virginia State University, and West Virginia University.
