Concord University Choirs To Perform Throughout Southern W.Va.
Athens, W.Va. – The Concord University Collegiate Singers and ConChords will be on tour in southern West Virginia April 16-18 performing at both public and private events.
The public tour will kick off Thursday, April 16 with a 7 p.m. performance at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 Duhring St., Bluefield, and on Friday, April 17 the tour will continue with a 7 p.m. performance at First Baptist Church, 1116 Mercer St., Princeton. The choirs will end their tour Saturday, April 18 with a 2 p.m. performance at Tamarack in Beckley. All performances are free and open to the public.
The choirs will perform a varied repertoire of spirituals, folk music, opera, musical theatre and university songs under the direction of Joshua Miller, assistant professor of music and director of vocal studies.
Miller described the tour, saying, “We have amazing talent here at Concord University that the surrounding communities need to know about. This tour will allow folks in southern West Virginia to see and hear that talent.”
Each performance will be approximately an hour and a half hour in length.
During the tour, the choral groups will also perform two private concerts Friday, April 17 at the C.A.S.E. Commission on Aging Center and at the Glenwood Park Retirement Village.
Both the Collegiate Singers and the ConChords are comprised of Concord University students. The Collegiate Singers is a select ensemble devoted to the artistic performance of music, and the ConChords is a small, select vocal ensemble that performs music in a wide variety of styles.
