Dillard Named Concord University Miss Relay for Life
Athens, W.Va. – Concord University junior Krystina Dillard was named Miss Relay for Life at the pageant held Friday, October 24, 2008, in the Alexander Fine Arts Center. Concord freshman Paige Cook was named first attendant and junior Brittany Keys second attendant.
“It is such an honor to be Concord University’s Miss Relay for Life, and I look forward to using my title to be an advocate for the American Cancer Society. I plan to inspire others to take a more active role in the fight against cancer,” said Dillard. Her hometown is South Charleston, and she is a psychology major.
Cook’s hometown is Pineville, and she is a 2008 graduate of Wyoming East High School. Her community involvement includes assisting with the Wyoming County Toy Fund and Red Cross blood drives. She is a premed major.
Keys is from Lewisburg, and she graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 2006. She is an education major. Her community involvement includes serving as chair for Relay for Life, and involvement with Colleges Against Cancer, the United Way and the WE CAN program.
The pageant was organized by Concord employee Erin Clark, co-chair of Concord’s Relay for Life, and all proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society’s fundraiser Relay for Life. Clark described her involvement saying, “Cancer research is so important to me. The Miss Relay Pageant helped us raise money for research, educational programs, advocacy and patient services. I am proud of each and every one of the girls that stood up on that stage and gave their heart and soul that evening. They are all winners in my heart. I can’t stress enough that there is no finish line until we find a cure.”
Clark is currently organizing a Mr. Concord University Relay for Life event to take place Thursday, November 20. Concord University will host a Relay for Life walk Saturday, April 25, 2009.
