Saint Louis Brass Quintet to Perform Wednesday, April 2

Athens, W. Va. – Concord University Artist Lecture Series is sponsoring the Saint Louis Brass Quintet Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 8 p.m. in the Main Theater of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.

The Saint Louis Brass Quintet performs a broad spectrum of music for brass from the works of today’s composers to Baroque and Renaissance music. They understand the importance of education and entertainment in their programming and offer audiences a lighter fare of music including, popular music of the America’s, jazz arrangements by Ellington, Strayhorn, Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Members of the Saint Louis Symphony formed the Saint Louis Brass Quintet in 1964. They began playing children’s concerts in the St. Louis area and soon began performing for adults. They are funded by the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the Missouri Arts Council. Forty years later and after more than 2,500 concerts, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet continues to entertain audiences nationwide.

The program will include songs from composers such as: Michael Praetorius, Dana Wilson, Anthony Plog, Bernie, Pinkard, Manuel de Falla, Astor Piazzolla, Wayne Scott and Joey Sellers. The movements range from quiet, night sounds to exciting frantic dance sounds to monophonic style melodies.

This tour engagement of the Saint Louis Brass Quintet is funded through Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s Mid Atlantic Tours program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring program.

The Box Office will open at 7 p.m., and reservations are not needed.

Admission will be $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for non-Concord students. For more information please contact Concord University’s Box Office at 1-304-384-5101 or by e-mail at boxoffice@concord.edu.
