Several Science Classrooms Unavailable as CU Implements Remediation Procedures
Athens, W.Va. – The following statement was issued to faculty, students and staff at Concord University by Concord University President, Dr. Jerry L. Beasley: “Test results from the Science Building have documented that a small amount of mercury has escaped containment and warrants remediation. The spill is less than one pound, which is below “R.Q.” (minimum amount of spill to require a Reported Quantity report to the EPA). Nevertheless, the third floor of the Science Building will be closed temporarily. Concord University has contracted a professional hazardous materials firm to remediate the area.
“The Academic Dean’s office will reassign affected classes while remediation efforts take place.
“I ask for your cooperation and assistance as we proceed to conduct the business of Concord in as normal a fashion as possible.”
