CU Homecoming Festivities … Alumni Award … Game Under the Lights … Fireworks!

Athens, W.Va. – The Alumni Association hosted its annual banquet in the Student Center Ballroom at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 5. Featured entertainment was the ConChords vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Kelly Hudson. The Association awarded the Outstanding Alumnus award for 2007 to Mr. Gary Rado ’63, former president of CASIO Electronics. Originally from Pennsylvania, he pursued a degree in business at Concord.

After the banquet, guests could either attend a play in the Alexander Fine Arts Center or a “lip sync” contest in the Carter Center.

On Saturday, October 6, the Concord University Mountain Lions faced off against the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets from Charleston. Kickoff was at 6 p.m. for the first-ever homecoming game held under the lights with alumni band members joining the Concord marching band for the pre-game performance. The well-behaving, yet fun-loving crowd was one of the largest ever at Callaghan Stadium.

Homecoming king and queen were Brandon Massey from Fayetteville representing Mu Xi Phi and Krista King from Sinks Grove representing Nu Zeta Chi; first runners up were Greg Morris from Cower and Samantha Adams from Daniels representing Alpha Sigma Alpha; and second runners up were Todd Hanchock from Princeton representing Phi Kappa Phi and Courtney Hoover from Middlebourne representing Sigma Sigma Sigma. Other couples who participated included Derek Calloway from Anawalt representing the Black Student Union and Mariya Hihova representing the International Students Club; Ezekial Keyes from Hinton representing Tau Kappa Epsilon and Laura Canton from Bel Air, Md., representing Delta Zeta; and Greg Moench from Blacksburg representing Sigma Tau Gamma and Ana Altore from Hinton representing Alpha Sigma Tau.

West Virginia State won the game, 25 to 22 and fans enjoyed fireworks after the game.
