Freedom from Smoking Training at CU, Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14

Athens, W.Va. – The Concord University Against Tobacco Coalition and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter will be hosting a Freedom from Smoking training at Concord University on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14. The training will last seven hours on Saturday and four hours on Sunday and up to 25 participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The Freedom from Smoking program is a cessation support group that is empirically based and has met national standards. After completion of this training, participants will be able to offer the cessation program in their individual communities.

At this time, the cost of the training is $199. This fee must be paid by the morning of the first day of the training. If you reserve a place and are unable to attend, you will forfeit the registration fee.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Concord University Against Tobacco Coalition on Saturday and Sunday. You will be responsible for your own transportation, hotel expenses, and other accommodations.

This program is strongly recommended for West Virginia colleges and universities participating in the Against Tobacco program in order to fulfill their cessation support group objectives.

Amanda Woods, co-coordinator, said, “We are in the process of trying to obtain CEUs in social work and psychology for the training. If we are able to obtain permission for credits of CEUs, the cost will likely increase to reflect the cost of the CEUs for those wishing to earn those credits.

“If you have already been trained in the Freedom from Smoking program in the past, you will need to be re-trained. Changes have been made to the original program, and during the next month, all of the workbooks and manuals will have changed. Please contact us via e-mail or telephone to reserve your place in the program. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on October 13 and 14!”
