CU Psychology Students Present at Conference and Win “Challenge”

Athens, W.Va. – The Tri-State Psychology Conference was held on April 13, 2007 in Huntington, W.Va., on the campus of Marshall University. Several students from Concord University attended the conference along with faculty members Dr. Karen Griffee and Mr. Robert Rhodes. Besides attending the conference, many Concord students presented research they had conducted over the course of the 2006-2007 academic year. Among the presentations were two papers and five posters.

Dr. Rod Klein, assistant professor of psychology, said, “All of the presentations were professional and should make all Concord students and faculty proud.” Klein also said that faculty members of West Virginia University and Marshall University commented on the professionalism of the Concord students. “They remarked that our students behave and perform like graduate students.”

Not only did the students perform well in their presentations, but they also participated in the annual Psychology Jeopardy Challenge, at which they won the first place trophy, beating Marietta College and West Virginia University.

During the spring 2007 semester, students researched projects with highly technical subjects such as “The Relationships between Video Game Use, Sex, Age, and Attitudes towards Violence,” a project researched by Kira Bailey, graduating senior.

Participating students in the conference included: Jeff Atha of Oak Hill, Kira Bailey of Huntington, Buddy Dunkley of Beckley, Michael Lingo of Green Sulphur Springs, Nicholas Massey of Princeton, Eric Proffit of Princeton, Brandon Ramsey of Lashmeet, Jason Ross of Princeton, Kristy Smith of Princeton, Amanda Starling of Princeton, Courtney Stewart of Pineville, Amie Vedral of Putnam Valley, N.Y., and Jesse Yuhasz of Princeton.
