Honor and Service Organization at CU Hosts Induction

Athens, W.Va. - The Concord University Chapter of Gamma Beta Phi Society held its annual induction ceremonies on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4 in the Ballroom at Concord University.

Gamma Beta Phi is both an “honor” and “service” organization for students in colleges and universities all across the United States. There are approximately 40,000 active student members of Gamma Beta Phi from the Virgin Islands to Hawaii. It is non-profit and co-educational.

The three major objectives of Gamma Beta Phi include the following, scholarship (to recognize and encourage individual excellence in education), character (to promote the development of leadership ability and character in its members), and service (to foster, disseminate and improve education through appropriate service projects).

Vice President Frank Houck from Union welcomed the inductees and their parents and guests to the afternoon events. Recording Secretary Shana Davis from Summersville recited the “Objectives of Gamma Beta Phi.” Co-Treasurer Joey Lares from Gordon explained the meaning of the “Coat of Arms,” the Gamma logo. Corresponding Secretary Corrie McKee from Nitro informed the inductees of the “Code of Ethics.” Co-advisor C. Abraham Lilly was keynote speaker for the Saturday event, while Co-advisor Amy Pitzer addressed the group on Sunday. Frank Houck led the new inductees in the “Pledge of Membership.” President Ashley Acord from Athens was unable to attend the events.
