Groundbreaking Ceremony Announced for Tuesday, June 27: New Artificial Turf Coming to Callaghan Stadium at Concord
Athens, W.Va. – On Wednesday, June 14, the Concord University Board of Governors approved the installation of new artificial turf at Callaghan Stadium, and on Tuesday, June 27 at noon, officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the improvement at the stadium that was dedicated on October 22, 1966.
Ms. June O. Shott is funding the improvement for the sports facility, and the field will be named in her honor.
Officials who will be participating in the ceremony include: Ms. June O. Shott; Dr. Jerry Beasley, president of the University; Mr. R.T. “Ted” Rogers, chair of the Concord University Board of Governors; and other university and community leaders.
“The improvement will have a positive impact on Concord University’s ability to attract, educate and retain students: we want to help students turn their dreams into reality. The economic impact, as well as the recreational, fitness and educational potential of the campus and greater community is more likely to be fulfilled through the utilization of a renovated Callaghan Stadium complex,” stated Greg Quick, athletic director for Concord University.
A “tailgate” luncheon will be held after the groundbreaking ceremony and the public is invited to attend both the ceremony and the informal luncheon. Reservations are requested.
