Update on Capital Improvement Projects at CU
Athens, W.Va. – Vice President for Business and Finance James L. “Jim” Cannon has provided the following update on the Nick Joe Rahall, II Technology Center, University Point (which includes an interfaith chapel and alumni center) and several other projects designed to enhance educational opportunities and student life and improve safety at Concord University.
NICK JOE RAHALL, II TECHNOLOGY CENTER
Construction on the Nick Joe Rahall, II Technology Center is progressing on schedule although there is still a need for additional funding to fully furnish and equip the facility once the building is completed. Those interested may access a “web camera” to view the progress. Go to www.concord.edu/Rahall and click on the “camera” link.
“We hope to have the parking area restored during the next spring semester,” stated Mr. Cannon. “It is still too early to schedule an official opening date for the Center.”
The construction start date on University Point is undetermined. The project has been rescheduled due to the need to use the competitive bid process for architectural and engineering services. The building committee is currently in the selection process for architects. The Concord University Office of Development and the Concord University Foundation are continuing to seek donations for the facility. “We have about 80 percent of the current cost projections,” stated Cannon.
ALEXANDER FINE ARTS CENTER
The Alexander Fine Arts Center lighting project in the Main Theater and the H.C. Paul Theater should be starting soon, there is a pre-construction meeting scheduled for April 18.
Contractors will install a completely new lighting system in both theaters with an estimated completion time of 210 days.
In addition to these projects, there is a feasibility study for energy conservation being initiated, and there is a restroom conversion project under way in Marsh Hall and the J. Frank Marsh Library to meet design standards in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
