Homecoming a Wet Affair for the Second Year in a Row

Athens, W.Va. – For the second year in a row, Concord University’s homecoming celebration was affected by rain as a cold mist tried to dampen the spirits of the fans and players at Callaghan Stadium in Athens as Concord played the W.Va. State University Yellow Jackets from Charleston.

Classmates from the class of 1955 and 1980 were honored, and football players from those reunion classes were introduced at the game prior to kickoff.

At halftime, Megan H. Nichols from Salem, Va., representing Alpha Sigma Alpha and Nick Bias from Madison, W.Va., representing Mu Xi Phi were named homecoming queen and king.

First attendants were Michelle Blankenship from Monaville, W.Va., representing Sigma Sigma Sigma and John Hale from Princeton, W.Va., representing Sigma Tau Gamma.

Second attendants were Amanda Heaton from Rock, W.Va., representing Delta Zeta and Enrique Corrales from Elkwood, Va., representing Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Other candidates for homecoming queen and king included: Heather Carpenter from Newton, W.Va., representing Alpha Sigma Tau and Terrance Lee from Lakeland, Fla., representing the Black Student Union; Shannon Pendry from Wyoming, W.Va., representing the Concord University Girls Club and Nic Harbin from Bent Mountain, Va., representing Pi Kappa Phi; Lauren Heysek from Medina, Ohio, representing the International Club and Keisuke Watanabe from Kobe, Japan, representing the International Club; and Kristin Cook from Beaver, W.Va., representing Nu Zeta Chi and Fernando Valencia-Rojas from Sarasota, Fla., representing Phi Sigma Phi.

Concord was victorious over the W.Va. State University Yellow Jackets with a final score of 24-13.
