Credit Bureau of the Virginias Foundation Supports Scholarships at Concord University
Athens, W.Va. – Credit Bureau of the Virginias Foundation Executive Director Jimmy W. Welch presented a check for $9,000 to Concord University Director of Enrollment Kent Gamble to provide financial support for students seeking a university education.
“As a consumer reporting agency,” commented Mr. Welch, “we marketed to nine counties in this area, and that is where we want to help students by providing scholarships to schools in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. Last year, we awarded approximately $50,000 in scholarships and grants. Many Foundations give one-time scholarships, but we decided to make a commitment to students recommended by financial aid offices through their graduation. We are also directing our efforts toward helping students with ‘average’ grades and this may be somewhat unique among organizations that fund scholarships. The Foundation will continue to support those students who are able to improve their grade point average above ‘average.’”
Director of Enrollment Kent Gamble said, “The Credit Bureau of the Virginias Foundation has provided the university with scholarships which aids the admissions office in the recruitment of students from southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. This scholarship also aids in retaining students and we are thankful to the Foundation for their continued support of our students.”
