Roth 5k Walk/Run May 3rd to Benefit Concord Scholarship Fund
Athens, W.Va. - The 15th annual David S. Roth Memorial Walk/Run will be held Tuesday, May 3. Registration begins at 5 p.m. in the lobby of Carter Hall on the Concord University campus in Athens. When the starting pistol is fired at 6:15 p.m., walkers and runners lined up on the track will begin a gently rolling 3.1 mile race course that circles the campus twice, looping twice through downtown Athens.
Sponsored by the Concord University Student Government Association, this annual walk/run honors the memory of Dr. David S. Roth, who taught English and journalism at the university from 1969 to 1986. Dr. Roth was an enthusiastic Mountain Lion fan who actively supported Concord athletics in his roles as statistician, reporter, and announcer.
All proceeds from the walk/run will be donated to the David S. Roth Memorial Scholarship fund. The Roth Scholarship is awarded on the basis of an annual university-wide writing contest in which all Concord students are eligible to compete.
T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 100 who register and participate in the walk/run. Trophies will be awarded to top-ranked runners and walkers in various age and gender categories.
All participants will be eligible to win door prizes donated by the Concord University Bookstore, Trophies and More of Princeton, and Aramark Campus Dining Service. Aramark will also donate refreshments of lemonade and fresh fruit.
The walk/run entry fee for the public is $12 (or $10 for registration by May 2). For students, the entry fee is $6 (or $5 for registration by May 2).
