Congressman Rahall to Speak at Remembrance Ceremony for Naval Hero at Concord, Saturday, October 16
Athens, W. Va. – A special ceremony to honor Max Price, the U.S.S. Price and the U.S.S. Price crew will be held Saturday, October 16, at 11 a.m., in front of Marsh Hall at Concord University. Concord President Jerry Beasley, Congressman Nick Joe Rahall, II, and Mr. Malcolm Ogle of the Price Crew will provide remarks and the U.S. Navy will provide a special color guard to raise a 48-star banner in honor of the national colors flown by the Price during its wartime service.
“It is appropriate that the Crew Association of the U.S.S. Price will be gathering for a reunion to coincide with Homecoming activities at Concord University because their ship was named for the Concord alum, and the vessel was commissioned on October 20, 1943, nearly 51 years to the day from the Concord homecoming festivities,” stated David Shumate, coordinator for the event.
