Athens, W.Va. - Currently-enrolled Concord University undergraduate students with strong writing skills are invited to enter the fifth annual competition for the David S. Roth Memorial Scholarship. Applications will be accepted by Dr. Stephen Rowe in the Marsh Library until December 10, 2004.
The winner of the competition will receive a $500 scholarship for use at Concord University in the 2005-2006 academic year. Students of all academic majors are eligible to apply.
To pick up an application form, drop by Dr. Rowe's office (located on the main floor of the Marsh Library between the main reading room and the computer lab). Or request an application form by phone (384-5229) or by e-mail (email@example.com).
A completed application packet will consist of the application form, a faculty recommendation, and a sample essay of at least 500 words written by the applicant. (If the essay was written for a course, a description of the assignment should be attached.)
The Roth Memorial Scholarship commemorates the achievements of Dr. David S. Roth, who taught English at Concord from 1969 to 1986. Dr. Roth prized good writing and helped many Concord students to hone their writing skills. This scholarship, funded by contributions and by an annual David S. Roth Memorial Walk/Run, is designed to honor Dr. Roth's memory by recognizing the achievements of promising Concord University student writers.
