“Vita” Open for Business Now Through April 15

Athens, W. Va. - Mr. Billy R. Skeen and Mr. Charles D. “Chuck” Autrey, accounting professors and sponsors of the division of business accounting club, announce that the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is open for business today through Thursday, April 15 at Concord College.

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low-income (under $35,000) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Concord College accounting students have received special training from the Internal Revenue Service to help prepare basic tax returns.

“We have five accounting majors who are participating in this program,” stated Mr. Skeen, “and, this is the first year that Concord has participated. Students received valuable training that will be put to good use as we help those who qualify for the program.”

The VITA Program will be headquartered in Marsh Hall, A-329. Office hours are Mondays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Those seeking assistance must bring the following items: photo identification; social security cards for the you, your spouse and dependents; birth dates for primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return; current year’s tax package if you received one; wage and earning statement(s) form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers; interest and dividend statements from banks (form 1099); a copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; other relevant information about income and expenses; total paid for day care; and day care provider’s identifying number.
