Public Service Announcement: Third Annual Relay for Life at Concord Begins at Noon, Saturday, May 1

Athens, W. Va. - Concord College will hold its third annual Relay for Life, Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Callaghan Stadium. The Relay will begin at 12 noon and end at 12 midnight. The event will kickoff with the survivor lap and continue with carnival-like activities for Relay participants.

“We are wanting to encourage a broad range of support from the community,” noted Dr. Angie Edwards, coordinator for the event. “The previous two events were essentially held during the evening and into the night. We think a ‘day-time’ event will be more convenient for those who want to support the Relay for Life and honor those they know who have suffered from this terrible disease. The funds that are raised are used for cancer research, advocacy, and individual support, and it is critical for us to continue the press forward to abolish this terrible disease. A large percent of the funds that are raised remain in this area.”

Supporters are encouraged to call the American Cancer Society in Bluefield at 1-304-327-8770 or Dr. Angie Edwards at Concord College at 1-304-384-5270 to participate. Teams are forming now.

CONCORD COLLEGE NOTES: Persons with disabilities should contact Rick Dillon, 1-304-384-5231 if special assistance or help is required for access to an event scheduled by the College on campus.
