Ken Perlman Puts the “Clawhammer” Down
Athens, W.Va. - The Concord College Artist Lecture Series presents Ken Perlman. Ken Perlman will perform Thursday, November 7, 8 p.m., in the H.C. Paul Studio Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. Ken Perlman is a well-known clawhammer banjo player and teachers on the American and international folk music scenes. Originally from Boston, Ken’s plucking has taken him to audiences around the world including Britain, Western Europe and Australia.
Recognized as a superb instrumentalist, Perlman is also an author and his banjo books are considered classics in their field. They include: Clawhammer Style Banjo, Melodic Clawhammer Banjo and Clawhammer Banjo Solo’s. Ken has also recorded a series of audio and video instructional banjo tapes for Homespun & Centerstream.
Ken’s solo audio recordings include Island Boy, Devil in The Kitchen, Live in the U.K., and Clawhammer Banjo and Fingerstyle Guitar Solos.
Bluegrass Unlimited magazine wrote, “His … recordings … solidify his role as one of the most creative practitioners of his art. He has stretched the boundaries of what can be done on the clawhammer banjo .… ”
Ken is also a regular columnist for Banjo Newsletter and a “teach in” columnist for Sing Out! magazine.
The general public is invited to attend this unique performance. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2.00 for non-Concord students.
