Concord college P.E./health department changes its name
Athens, W.Va. - The Concord College physical education/health department made a decision to change its name to the Department of Human Performance. The change occurred mainly due to the growing variety of programs the department is offering. Dr. Eloise Elliot and other officials in the physical education/health department were instrumental in selecting the new name and acquiring approval.
The name change is a reflection of the new additions to the department and is inclusive for every major and minor program within the division. Dr. Eloise Elliot said, “We, as a division wanted to select a name that was really all-encompassing, and speaks to what the physical education/health department has to offer.”
Elliot also said, “The athletic training program is important in the field because students today are not as interested in earning a physical education degree as they were in the past.” Students now have many more options in the athletic field with an athletic training program and sports management minor in health promotion. Eloise stated, “It is always important to give students another avenue for their career options.”
The name will be launched officially in the College’s 2004-2006 academic catalog.
