Concord Business Students Win Awards

Athens, W.Va. - The Concord College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) attended the West Virginia Phi Beta Lambda 2002 State Leadership Conference on April 19 in Flatwoods, WV, at the Day’s Inn Conference Center. Four colleges throughout West Virginia competed in the state competitions. Six Concord College students participated in conference activities. PBL advisor Dr. Susan Robinett accompanied the students. Dr. Kendra Boggess is also a sponsor. First and second place winners are eligible to compete in the National Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Conference. The winners in the state academic competitions were:

Accounting Principles-First Place-Christy Elliott, Mt. Olive, WV

Accounting for Professionals-First Place-Angela Ramsey, Forest Hill, WV;
Second Place-Derrick Browning, Pineville, WV

Business Communication-First Place-Shawna McCrosky, Peterstown, WV;
Third Place-Crystal Bradley, Peterstown, WV

Business Law-First Place-Christy Elliott, Cannelton, WV

Human Resource Management-First Place-Angela Ramsey, Forest Hill, WV

Management-First Place-Prerna Khemka, Calcutta, India;
Second Place, Shawna McCrosky, Peterstown, WV

Marketing-First Place-Prerna Khemka, Calcutta, India

Quantitative Methods-Second Place-Derrick Browning, Pineville, WV

Phi Beta Lambda is an honorary business student organization. Students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are invited to become members. PBL is the collegiate sector of Future Business Leaders of America.

The organization promotes leadership development and service activities for members. Dr. Robinett: "The Concord College chapter of PBL is very active in college and community service projects. Being a part of this organization provides students with opportunities to expand their academic studies and to excel in their academic achievements."
