Barnette Scholarship Established at Concord to Benefit Social Science Majors
Athens, W.Va. - The Concord College Foundation, Inc. announces the establishment of the David Allan Barnette and Cynthia Wegley Barnette Scholarship, in recognition of the important role that Concord College plays in the lives of its graduates.
The scholarship will be awarded to a qualified social science major to pay toward his/her tuition, fees, room and board. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be based on a combination of the following factors: demonstrated financial need, minimum 3.5 high school grade point average, graduation from a West Virginia high school and a minimum score of 21 on the ACT or other admissions tests accepted by the College.
Mr. Barnette is a 1973 graduate of Concord College and is currently serving as chairman of the Concord College Annual Fund Charleston Dinner Committee. He recently joined the Concord College Foundation as a board member. He is an attorney with Jackson & Kelly, PLLC, Charleston, West Virginia, where he specializes in antitrust, broadcasting law, business and commercial litigation, intellectual property, technology and computer law.
Ms. Barnette is a graduate of West Virginia University and employed by Thomas Memorial Hospital where she is vice president and general counsel.
“My wife and I are supporting Concord because its primary mission is to give opportunities to students who otherwise would not be able to go to college,” stated Mr. Barnette. “Concord is unique in that it is a liberal arts college with an excellent academic reputation and is very affordable. Although it is affordable, there are still those who need financial assistance to reach their academic and career goals.”
