Concord College Welcomes New Faculty

Athens, W.Va. - Dr. Dean W. Turner, vice president and academic dean, announced new faculty and administrators in academic affairs for the fall 2000 term:

Douglas L. Becker - temporary assistant professor of mathematics. B.S., Concord College; M.A., Virginia Tech. Mr. Becker has taught adjunct for the College and lives in Athens, W.Va.

Dennis D. Compton - assistant football coach/instructor in physical education. B.S., Defiance College; M.S., Ball State University. Mr. Compton is from Urbana, Oh.

Michael D. Cox - temporary instructor in health and physical education. B.S. and M.S., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Mr. Cox is from Blacksburg, Va.

Ellen C. Darden - assistant professor of social work. B.A., Baylor University; M.S.S.W., University of Texas at Arlington; Ph.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Darden is from Blacksburg, Va.

John Fazio - temporary instructor in economics. B.S., Fairmont State College; M.B.A., West Virginia University. Mr. Fazio is from Charleston, W.Va.

Karen H. Griffee - assistant professor of psychology. B.A., M.S. and Ph.D. from University of New Mexico. Dr. Griffee has taught adjunct for us and lives in Athens, W.Va.

Kathy J. Hawks - assistant professor of education. B.S., Bluefield State College; M.S., West Virginia University. Ms. Hawks has taught adjunct for Concord and lives in Princeton, W.Va.

Jennifer L. Hvozdovic - temporary head athletic trainer/instructor in athletic training. B.S. and M.S., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Ms. Hvozdovic is from DeLand, Fla.

Kathryn L. Liptak - chair, division of education, library science and physical education; director of teacher education; associate professor of education. B.S. and M.S., West Virginia University; Ed.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Liptak is from Dover, Del.

Darrin T. Martin - assistant professor of education. A.S. and B.S., Bluefield State College; M.S., Radford University; Ed.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Martin lives in Bluefield, Va.

Janet D. Neal - assistant professor of travel industry management. A.S., Bluefield State College; B.S., Radford University; M.B.A., Virginia Tech; Ph.D., (expected early fall 2000), Virginia Tech. Ms. Neal is from Rocky Gap, Va.

Fernando A. Porras - temporary instructor in art. A.A., Santa Fe Community College; B.A., Concord College. Mr. Porras has taught adjunct for Concord and lives in Princeton, W.Va.

Randall G. Salzman - assistant professor of communication arts. B.A., Trinity College; M.A., North Texas State University. Mr. Salzman is from Nassau, Bahamas.

Elizabeth A Schiltz - assistant professor of philosophy and history. B.A. Ohio Wesleyan University; Ph.D. (expected early fall 2000), Duke University. Ms. Schiltz is from Durham, N.C.

Lethea D. Smith - temporary assistant professor of education. B.S.,
Concord College; M.A., Marshall University. Ms. Smith lives in Princeton, W.Va.

Stephanie R. Songer - assistant professor of biology. B.S., North Georgia College; M.S. and Ph.D., Emory University. Dr. Songer is from Decatur, Ga.

Dr. Turner, President Jerry Beasley and other faculty and staff members welcomed the new faculty members to the College at an orientation meeting this past Thursday, August 17, 2000.
